King's Square
Description
Right in the center of St. George's, King’s Square is where the island’s history feels the most alive. Surrounded by centuries-old buildings, this open square has been the focal point of the town for generations and is the natural starting point for exploring Bermuda’s oldest settlement.
As you walk through, you’ll spot some of St. George’s most important landmarks, including the Bermuda National Trust Museum and the historic Town Hall, along with well-preserved colonial architecture that dates back to the 1700s. Details like the stocks and pillory give a glimpse into how public punishment was once carried out, and they’ve become a popular photo stop.
The square isn’t just about static history. It’s also where you’ll occasionally catch reenactments and live demonstrations that bring Bermuda’s colonial past into the present. Down by the waterfront, the ducking stool is used for these performances, adding a bit of humor and theatre to the experience.
It’s an easy place to linger for a bit before wandering the narrow streets of St. George’s.
