St David’s Battery At Great Head Park
Description
Located at the easternmost edge of Bermuda on St. David’s Island, Great Head Battery was completed in 1910 as part of the island’s coastal defenses, positioned to guard the Narrows Channel. The site sits on St. David’s Head—made up of Great Head and Little Head—and features elevated gun emplacements overlooking the ocean. While the guns were never used in combat, the location reflects Bermuda’s role as a strategic British naval outpost.
Today, the area forms part of Great Head Park, a wide open coastal space with walking paths and sweeping views over the Atlantic and toward St. George’s. It’s a quieter, less developed historic site that combines military history with some of the most dramatic scenery on the island.
